MEN FAIR FOOD TRUCKS
I'm learning a ton about events and food trucks. As we plan the Mother Earth News (MEN) fair here July 17-18 (www.motherearthfair.com) the nuances of what we want and what we don't want become more complex by the day. It's fascinating.
FOOD FREEDOM IN WEST VIRGINIA
I'm not a member of any political party and move freely between liberals and libertarians. If somebody embraces food freedom, I don't care what political persuasion they're from; I'll promote them.
CREATING BRIGHT EYED HIGH SCHOOLERS
Yesterday I spent the day with the organizers of what promises to be the largest nature resort east of the Mississippi. The 550 acre property is currently just forest, but things will happen soon as it takes shape. It's located west of Strasburg, Virginia out Route 55….
CORONAVIRUS AND SOCIETY
As you know, coronavirus is front and center. Yesterday for the first time I had a guy refuse to shake my hand after a speech, citing coronavirus fears. I was taken aback. You mean people can't touch anymore?
WEEDING WOODLOTS
I had the distinct pleasure of spending the day Friday with America's foremost horse logging forestry expert, Jason Rutledge. He's going to be conducting live cutting and selection workshops with his horses at the Mother Earth News fair here at Polyface July 17-18. Do you have your tickets yet? Hint hint.
MORE SACRED COW
Yesterday I introduced you to a new book coming out this summer by Diana Rodgers and Robb Wolff titled SACRED COW. I read the manuscript over the weekend and it's excellent for those of us who want to save the health of ourselves and the planet with responsibly raised livestock and eating meat.
SACRED COW
Over the weekend I finished reading a manuscript by Diana Rodgers and Robb Wolff titled SACRED COW. It'll be both a book and a documentary; the documentary is supposed to be debuted at the Mother Earth Fair here July 17-18, hopefully at a local theater on Saturday night, July 18.
A FOOD FREEDOM PROPOSAL
Back in 2017 some politically connected folks urged me to leverage President Trump's against-the-grain persona by sending him a white paper for food freedom. I wrote it but never sent it; I know enough about politics to know that you need some sort of inside track for anything like to gain traction. I thought I was going to get an audience with Sonny Perdue in 2019, but that fell through.
WHAT IF FACTORY FARMED MEAT WAS THE ONLY OPTION?
A reader posed a question to me yesterday: "If you only had the option of factory farmed meat, would you still eat it?" Although I don't read all the chatter generated by my blog, I love to get feedback and Wendy, who handles all of this for me, screens and sends me salient comments and questions. So keep them coming.
CLIMATE CHANGE AND WATER
Yesterday I challenged the greenhouse gas orthodoxy regarding global warming, noting that GHG only has a 4 percent bearing on temperature while water is 96 percent. Don't worry, I'm not on a multi-day global warming kick, but today I want to address the flip side of desertification.
WATER, NOT GHG
Have you seen the latest numbers out from the U.S. Geological Survey that the Colorado River is down 20 percent since 2000 and expected to be down 25 percent by 2050 due to snow melt on the Rockies and global warming?
EDIBLE LANDSCAPING
Teresa and I just returned from visiting friends and family in Florida, the first time we ever went away for a couple of days without any business agenda. We've done lots of fun stuff, but always piggybacked on a speaking engagement or business need; this is the first time in our marriage (40 years) that we just took off with no agenda, no business element, just for fun. We can't even say the word "vacation.”
